I Have A Secret
For the whole of 2010 I have been on a special diet.
My favourite Parisian bistro salad with lovely soft poached eggs and lashings of smoked salmon was off the menu. So was my favourite breakfast, Eggs Benedict.

I switched to de-caff Illy coffee (and didn't fancy having any lattes or cappuccinos at all).

I spent two gloriously sunny weeks in the land of cheese and wine, and did not have any cheese or wine. Or any pate. Or any raw steak.

I probably shouldn't have had any of these lemon tarts on account of how they're probably made with raw egg yolks, but I'd already eaten about twenty of them before this occurred to me, so I figured I might as well just keep on going.

I know what you're thinking.
You're thinking I'm pregnant, right?
Well, if I were pregnant, I guess I might look like this:

Actually, I don't look like that at all. I look like this:

Yes, the Simply The Nest family has been increased by one! Our beloved daughter was born on 1 September, and is now an adorable bundle of twelve week old baby girl. She has her Daddy's olive skin, dark hair and dark eyes, her Mummy's chubby cheeks, and is completely and utterly gorgeous.
So this should go some way to explaining my general lack of posting and twittering in recent weeks - I have been somewhat busy :-)
Lots of stories about nursery designing, activity mat sewing, and mural painting coming up!

OH MY! I don't know how you managed to keep quiet about it all that time, but congrats! SO EXCITING! What a beautiful name, can't wait to hear more about this adventure! :)

Alice: HOW did you ever keep such a secret??? Congratulations!! My daughter is a Sept. baby too: they're the best. Look forward to lots of pictures!
Congratulations how wonderful!
Aww, thanks guys! It was SO hard to keep it a secret cos I kept wanting to write about all our DIY baby-related projects (and how hard it was making it back up the hill to our rented house in Bonnieux, Provence, in 36 degree sunshine while heavily pregnant!) but at the same time it just felt like something I wanted to keep quiet about.
Yes, she is a very clever girl to wait until 1 September so she will be the oldest in her school year instead of the youngest! And thank you for the compliments on her name, we wanted something that would go well with our Portuguese surname but would also sound cool if she marries a Smith, for example :-)
Congratulations - such exciting news! You certainly have much to be thankful for! Congrats again!
