Welcome!

Thanks for visting Simply The Nest. I'm an English girl married to an Portuguese boy, and when I'm not taking care of our adorable toddler girl, I blog about our house renovation, DIY projects, delicious recipes, design, inspirational interiors, and family life in a Victorian Manchester nest. Oh, and Jack Russells (we have two). And our masterplan to move to France. Très bien.

Tackling The Cupboard Of Hideousness

The Cupboard of Hideousness is no more!

Here's how our cupboard under the stairs looked a few weeks ago:

Shudder.

And here's how it looks now:

We extended the laminate to the back of the cupboard, and installed a lovely solid wood wine rack. The boxes full of DIY essentials are still there, but we reduced them and then re-packed them so they took up much less space.

An improvement, no?

And yes, we have rather a lot of wine :-)

Hey, I'll be over for some wine! Nice job you've done..

Wonderful! :) I definitely like the after better... I'll be stopping by later as well for a little wine!

What a change! For some strange reason I now desperately fancy a nice big glass of red wine. If no more spring cleaning gets done today you are to blame!

Love it, did you buy the wooden racks for the wine or did you make them? We have a root cellar in our basement which would make a perfect wine cellar. We're on a low budget and are looking for a way to cheaply shelve the bottles.

Oh love it! that's certainly an improvement! and as others. haha.. I do fancy a glass of red wine now. :)

by the way, where do all the items previously in the cupboard go?

Hi everyone - thanks for commenting!

Kimberj - my Dad made the wine rack for us using a kit. I think you could very easily DIY a custom-option to fit your space, however...

Ching - a lot of the clutter in the cupboard was caused by the wine in the first place! We had boxes and boxes of the stuff in there, many of which were half full. By stacking the bottles neatly on the rack we created a lot of space that could be used to house the remaining DIY materials - and we also did a big spring clean by taking everything out of the cupboard and throwing away lots of random things that had been hiding in there, and we didn't even know we had...

Mmm, red wine - make mine a Rioja :-)

WONDERFUL!
My husband is a bit handy, I'd love a similar wine rack....sadly though, wine never keeps for very long in our house...we'd need a far smaller rack haha

Wine never keeps for very long in our house either - that's why we have to have so much of it in stock!

Nice work! Any concerns about temperature though?
