Distressing An Heirloom Cabinet

The next stage in restoring my recently acquired heirloom cabinet has been achieved! First I sanded it, and then I painted it.

Next up, I distressed it.

This step was very easy - I simply rubbed soft sandpaper along all the edges to reveal the darker brown paint underneath. Because I'd rubbed candle wax along all the edges prior to painting the topcoat, the paint came off very easily:

The final step will be to spray the little tin storage boxes silver - and then I Will Be Done!

I really love that the boxes came out different colors! I still haven't ripped into the old closet shelves yet, too chicken :p I really love your projects and your fearlessness. I'm glad you painted over the labels, sometimes old stuff is just old stuff and needs repurposed.

Thanks! I did wobble a bit over obscuring history under a layer of silver paint, but they were nasty looking and stained so I just went for it. I also love that they're different colours - the cabinet is in place in my living room now, and it looks great!
