Welcome!

Thanks for visting Simply The Nest. I'm an English girl married to an Portuguese boy, and when I'm not taking care of our adorable baby girl, I blog about our house renovation, DIY projects, delicious recipes, design, inspirational interiors, and  family life in a little Manchester nest. Oh, and Jack Russells (we have two). And our five year masterplan to move to France. Très bien.

I'm Loving It - Glorious New Wellies (And Mud)

A few weeks ago I blogged about my newly-found need for wellies, and created a little shortlist of nine possible lovelies:

So after a carefully considered thought process (not really - I just pointed at the screen and said "I choose you!") here's what got delivered on Friday:

Cuteness!

We took the wellies (and of course the dogs) to Tatton Park for a test drive:

Yeah, it was gloomy. But there was plenty of mud, glorious mud to stomp around in:

Penny couldn't quite figure out how to climb down from the massive tree trunk:

After a good two hours of scampering around the park, someone was somewhat in need of a bath (no, no, not me - all I needed was a nice cup of tea and a biscuit):

After which she was rather sleepy:

Enrique was sleepy too. And very fluffy. After a bath he just turns into a big gorgeous puff-ball:

What did you do with your weekend?

A Winter Sunset Walk In Tatton Park

We have had more snow in Manchester in the past week than I've ever seen in the seven years I've been living here. So when I woke up on Sunday morning to find that yet more had fallen in the night, the solution to the 'what shall we do today' question seemed obvious - head over to Tatton Park and take the dogs for a long, snowy walk.

Well, it took nearly two hours to get there. In fact it took so long that we nearly ran out of petrol. And my car was horrible to drive on the icy roads (we realised when we checked it this morning that it has a flat tyre, which would go some way to explaining why it handled so badly). So I can now add 'spend two hours sitting in Kwik Fit' to my list of Christmas preparations. Yay.

However, Tatton was stunning. Voila:

Not too shabby looking, eh. Naturally I felt inspired to perform one of my trademark jumps (you can check out more on this post). It looks like I jumped about two metres off the ground, which is cool.

Enrique encountered his first ever snowman! He was very perplexed by said snowman, but dealt majestically with the situation by lifting his leg on it before I could stop him. That's my boy:

More loveliness:

I'm wearing Uggs, a French connection skirt, Top Shop coat, Accessorize hat, Andre's ski gloves, and about seven jumpers. I was pretty toasty.

Three-quarters family portrait:

When we got home, we had mugs of hot Milo, followed by shepherd's pie. It was a good day. What did you do this weekend?

If you'd like to see some photos of Tatton Park in autumn, then check out this post.

Tomorrow I'll be sharing the Christmas cards that I made this year. À bientôt!

A Walk Through The Autumn Woods (Plus Cake, Of Course)

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a splendid weekend. Here is a short photo story from my Saturday.

The day started with a cappuccino, made with our Gaggia and served in one of the Heals mugs that we received as wedding presents last summer:

I then made my way over to Altrincham with the Jack Russells to collect a friend and her Labrador, and we all headed over to Tatton Park. It was raining quite heavily, but being British, we naturally didn’t let that hold us back:

I had a nice time releasing my inner child while scuffing through the leaves:

The dogs had a nice time racing through the trees by the lake:

They also dived eagerly into the below-mentioned blue-green algae, and had to be hauled out by their scruffs:

The leaves were lovely colours:

After a long walk, we went back to my friend’s house for lovely buttery, sugary, lemony Nigella Madeira cake:

I went home to our Nest, where Andre had arranged a deli picnic on some more lovely Heals wedding china:

Miss Penelope was very sleepy from her long walk – how sweet does she look?

So that was my Saturday – how was your weekend?
